Hi,

It is freezing -10°C here (14°F) and I wonder what will happen with those little fish in the pond.

Do you need to do something when the winter starts in case it freezes like that ? Do you remove the fish or keep the water unfrozen one or the other way ?

The fish stay in the pond, Smile and while I've heard they can survive if the pond becomes completely frozen over; it's advised that a small hole be kept open in the ice so gases can be released, especially if it will frozen for several days. Depending on the size of the pond, a simple air bubbler with pump can be enough to keep it open or a heater can be purchased.

There's not much winterizing needed other than cleaning up plants and as the temperature of the pond water drops, you need to switch to a fall/spring food as they can't disgusted fatty food as well. Nights when the temperature is low, and there's the possibility of freezing, it's smart to turn off the filter and decorative pumps, to avoid them freezing and/or diverting the water from the pond and draining it when they start to thaw!

Ah thanks but this is some sort of kinda natural pond, I wondered if the fish would kinda freeze and survive Undecided

There is no pump or filter anwyay so that is one problem solved lol

We don't feed the fish, they are fed I don't know how and each spring we have loads of frogs making a hell of a noise too

If it's a natural pond, then it should take care of itself, the gases can escape thru the dirt. But if it's a man made pond with a pvc liner or something else separating the water from dirt, then to be safe, a small hole needs to be kept open.
